The Luxembourg pavilion in Dubai as if you were there

Introduction

The Ministry for Digitalisation has in its remit the digital inclusion of all citizens as well as the integration of new technologies. The Dubai pavilion in Luxembourg project presented below combines these two aspects. Indeed, through virtual reality, everyone was able to have access to this world-class exhibition.

The Expo Dubai 2020

The Expo Dubai 2020 was held from October 2021 to March 2022 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. More than 22 million visits have been counted. Some 200 countries and international organisations presented their ideas and solutions for the theme chosen for the exhibition: "Connecting Minds, Building the Future".

The virtual reality stand

From November 2021 to April 2022, the Ministry for Digitalisation offered the public of the Grand Duchy the opportunity to discover the Luxembourg pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Dubai through virtual reality, through a stand that travelled across the different regions of the country.

On this stand, those interested were able to settle down and put on a virtual reality headset to live an immersive experience of the Luxembourg pavilion in Dubai. Through this project, the Ministry aimed to facilitate access, reduce physical barriers and connect everyone virtually to this international event, so that the population could benefit from the advantages offered by means of new technologies!

This decentralized initiative thus aimed to guarantee access to all citizens who wished to live the unique experience of visiting the Luxembourg pavilion in Dubai in Luxembourg through virtual reality.

The "Luxembourg Pavilion Dubai 2020" mobile application

Since February 8, 2022, the "Luxembourg Pavilion Dubai 2020" mobile application also offers a virtual tour of the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo Dubai. It is an adaptation of the virtual reality film provided to the general public during the tour of the ministry's stand across the country.

This mobile application offers a large number of advantages:

  • The user can view it from any place where he is.
  • He can visit the pavilion at his own pace, as many times as he wishes and explore all the options offered at his leisure.
  • He only needs a smartphone or tablet to enjoy the interactive virtual tour.
  • After downloading it, the user no longer needs Internet access to view it.

The application is available in Luxembourgish, French and English and can be downloaded from Apple App Store et Google Play Store heruntergeladen werden.

In total, the stand welcomed 1.672 visitors during its various trips.
